Air Traffic Control: you are cleared for landing. Over.

All flight paths lead to the garden.

The bird feeders have been utilized to great success masha'allah. I am so happy to see the birds in our garden! I love watching them. And the boys too have been sitting with binoculars and enjoying seeing the visitors. So far we have spotted sparrows, I know shock, blackbirds, starlings, dunnocks, robin, song thrush, collared doves, wood pigeons and this year is the first year for blue tits to venture into our land. I'm so chuffed. They came solely on account of the bottle bird feeders we made and I've really been thrilled to watch them.

We have learned that different birds enjoy different foods and different places to look for food: blackbirds love fruit and berries and have been caning the raisins; dunnocks do not leave the ground, so we have been leaving things for them there; starlings eat anything not nailed down or on fire, so no worries; and the blue tits are fond of fat so Boss wants us to get a coconut and leave it there for them along with some peanuts strung up.

So, a day of birds. It is nice to create a bit of country-side in the inner city. More trees and more birds - can't beat it.

Assalamu Alaykum Qalballah, my 13 year old son and I also made a bottle bird feeder a month or two ago and we too enjoy seeing it utilized by various birds. We live in Canada and our feeder has attracted: chickadees, sparrows, purple finches, nuthatches and woodpeckers. Such fun for kids of all ages! What better way to show the glory of Allah! It brings such inner peace and happiness.

Masha'allah
I'm hoping to attract some that we don't normally get. Any finches would be a delight!

I really hoped to be bird feeding this winter until I found that my new neighbour has 5 killer machine cats. I fear enticing the birds to their deaths.

Ummrashid, birds are canny critters and so long as you place the food off the ground then it should be OK. I think the danger from lack of food in winter (esp in urban areas) is probably more of a threat than the cats TBH. Did you know that 3/4 of all robins don't last their first year??

Try a bird feeder from a washing line so that there is no cover for a cat to hide in - cats generally don't hunt if they lose the element of surprise.

And our "bird tables" are actually wall planters nailed to the fence for summer flowers - again a great place since they would see any predators a mile off.

The children really are thrilled to be able to watch the birds. So soothing...
