Robin

Today we cracked open the Ferby pencils.

Boss has been copying lots of birds into his notebook lately and the crayons are restricting him, colour wise and because of their clumsiness. It was time to give him big boy pencils to do his work with. He was very humbled and treats them with great respect, which is what I was looking for before I parted with them.

Proceeded to copy many birds (the blue tit is mine before you get excited)

And then he proceeded to write the name robin next to the picture. I casually asked, "oh did you copy the word from the book?" and Boss replied, "No - I just went r-o-b-i-n in my gob then I wrote the sounds down".

Proud Mummy Homeschooling moment. Unschooling so works. :P

It's all about birds here at the moment.

Masallah! :) quite the artist, wonderful choice of colours - for the word r-o-b-i-n too. I bet he had to do some thinking in between each letter while he selected the next colour to use :) Masallah! Oh, and I too love your pencil holder. My son likes to learn to sew so perhaps we'll work on making something similar to keep his favourite pens and pencils in. I hope you don't mind me using the idea :)

I know, masha'allah. He really took time over colour choice which made me smile. I remember being in school his age and taking the same concern over colour and styling of letters - the teachers used to get angry with me because I took too long writing and finishing my means-to-an-end task/work - they even told my parents on parents' evening!! But in my five year old eyes I was making my work beautiful and doing a good job.

Little reminders all the time why I homeschool.

Pencil holder is in Joelle's Last Minute Patchwork Gifts book.

I know what you mean. I had similar issues in school too. I would absolutely take my time trying my best and feeling pride in my work but somehow it was never deemed to be good enough by the teacher. Felt so rushed in school.

At least your son will not have to go through what you've had to deal with. He has a very understanding mommy whose 'been there' to guide him through life and help him learn, Masallah!

Thank you for the links to the pencil holder.
