Crash and burn - you'd think I'd learn...

Boss dug this book out of the bookshelves today for some reason

Found on a recent thrift recon mission...

Ended up reading it and then an impromptu static leccy experiment with a plastic handle and tissue paper. Very good. Then scratting about in the drawer found some old wire (I hope), a battery and bulb.

NOT shaking nits out of her comb...

I made the mistake of trying to by-pass conventional experimental techniques and held all bits together with my fingers. Yes it burned. Much to the amusement of Boss. You'd think I'd learn - but managed to burn myself a further three times before declaring the point of the experiment a success: never play with electrics and always get a grown up to kill themselves on your behalf.

Lesson learned. Fingers burned.

Youch! My daughter and I have been playing with a "Snap Circuits Jr." kit, where all the parts snap together. Switches, lights, sounds, a flying fan blade. What fun.

I have half an idea what's going on in a circuit from my dad's playing with ("working on") stuff like this when I was a child. Considering our local power plant partly blew up last year, this experience could be handy if we suddenly need to install a solar panel to be able to read at night.

"Not shaking nits" LOL
