I'm being intellectually lazy and/or sleepy and not reading the articles, but: I recall reading once about a "free school" where kids are NOT FORCED to learn to read, and they teach themselves, and there is no dyslexia there.

In my relatively uninformed opinion, I think a lot of it has to do with right-left hemisphere integration stuff, and individual developmental schedules that don't match schools' expectations.

Here in the States, they seem to be trying to get kids to read and write at younger and younger ages, which I suspect is counterproductive in the long run.
